WE.RESPECT IS OUR SUSTAINABILITY MANIFESTO:

Sustainability is interwoven through all aspects of Berger Textiles’ operations.
This journey started many years ago and has already taken us down new roads, brought new ideas and driven us to create new products. It is a road that we continue to travel on, making continual improvements as we go.
As a Spandex Group company, Berger Textiles’ Sustainability Strategy is focused on five areas, aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and underpinned by the high ethical standards we hold ourselves to.

▪ People | Protecting our most important asset
▪ Carbon Footprint | Reducing carbon emissions
▪ Products | Increasing recycled content and working towards a cradle-to-cradle approach for the whole range
▪ Packaging | Reducing packaging, improving recyclability and circularity
▪ Procurement | Procuring products and materials responsibly

How does used PET bottles become a textile?

The yarn for this textile is obtained from used PET bottles in a GRS-certified process. Approximately 12 used 1.5 litres PET bottles yield one square metre of textile. But it is not only the use of old PET bottles that makes these textiles so sustainable. The changed production process also requires less energy than conventional polyester yarns.

The process simplified
Used PET-bottles are cleaned in a water-saving manner, shredded into small flakes and processed into granulate. This is melted, converted into fibres, spun into yarn and finally processed into new Berger Textiles. 100 % recycled.
