Our Sustainability Manifesto

Sustainability is interwoven through all aspects of Berger Textiles’ operations. This journey began many years ago and has taken us down new roads, sparked innovative ideas, and driven the creation of more sustainable products. From innovative recycling solutions to powering our headquarters in Krefeld, Germany, with 100% renewable energy, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact at every level.

This commitment guides us forward as we continue to challenge ourselves and strive for better. We are proud to lead the way in sustainable textiles, with a focus on certified products, reducing waste, and supporting a circular economy. By continually improving and evolving, we aim to support a more sustainable future for our customers and the planet.

More than Products

Sustainable Products:

The EVO Range

Our EVO range represents the evolution of sustainable textiles. Produced using certified recycled PET yarn, these materials reduce the use of virgin resources while maintaining exceptional performance. All EVO products are REACH compliant, PVC-free, phthalate-free, and feature a water-based coating, making them a sustainable choice for the Soft Signage market.

The EVO range includes:

  • Lumina Evolution / Samba Evolution: For backlit frame applications.
  • Mozaik Evolution: A black-back textile ideal for exhibitions.
  • Revolution Evolution / Display Evolution: Display textiles for frontlit applications.
  • Matisse Evolution: Perfect for artistic printing needs.
  • Aero Evolution / Wind Evolution: High-performance flags.
  • Expandable Evolution: Stretchable textiles for versatile applications.
  • Fiber Evolution: Non-woven banners for outdoor promotions.

Our EVO range is a testament to our vision of closing the loop offering more sustainable materials without compromising on quality or performance.

Carbon Footprint:

Collaboration with CarbonQuota

We have calculated the carbon footprint of our best-selling product Samba, in collaboration with CarbonQuota, a leading advisor for carbon measurement. This assessment confirmed that Samba EVO, produced using recycled PET yarn, has a lower carbon footprint (-18%) compared to the standard version.

Furthermore, the wider information gathered by this CO2 footprint assessment has been key to driving future product development and innovation. We will continue to roll out CarbonQuota assessments throughout our entire product range in due course.

Our Certifications

We ensure our products meet the highest environmental and ethical standards through globally recognized certifications.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: Over 62% of our portfolio is certified, with 37 textiles scientifically tested for harmful substances, ensuring safer and healthier choices.

GRS Certified

We use a worldwide recognized certification to confirm the vision we have for our future development: another little piece of the puzzle that will help us in building the complete scenario.

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) sets the criteria for third-party certification of recycled materials and chain of custody. The GRS includes a 50% minimum recycled content percentage and additional social and environmental requirements related to processing and chemical use. REACH Compliance: All our textiles comply with the EU’s REACH regulation, protecting human health and the environment from chemical risks.

All Our Textiles Are REACH Compliant

The Regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (REACH) is the main EU law to protect human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.

EcoVadis Platinum Rating for Sustainability Excellence

As part of our commitment to sustainability, Berger Textiles undergoes an annual assessment by EcoVadis, a global leader in business sustainability evaluations. Our Platinum Medal reflects our dedication to the environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

This is the path we are on.

We know the sustainability journey may present some challenges, but we are accelerating our progress.

We started with the calculation of the carbon footprint of our best seller Samba and we will continue this analysis with the rest of our portfolio. This is the first step to understanding where we can make improvements to reduce our overall footprint.

Waste reduction is also very important to us. We are pleased to have started a project which involves the transformation of your printed fabrics at the end of their life into recycled textile pellets. We are working with a specialist recycling company located in Europe, close to our facility, to minimise the carbon impact of  transporting this waste. Customers working with us on this project will receive a waste recovery certificate.

Another important topic for us is supply chain due diligence. We are now a member of Sedex and we are going through the process of auditing our supply chain to ensure our suppliers operate to the highest standards of labour and human rights.
